Fort Process Panoramic Score England

Fort Process festival, a production by the Lost Property arts collective, commissioned me for a new panoramic score composition, after last year’s IMAGIRO Landmannalaugar.

Two works ‘Central’ and ‘Caponier’, titled after their locations in the fort, are specifically made for their location.

‘Central’ works goes round the concrete built remnants of circular gun placement and works like a clockwork.

In ‘Caponier’ I’m quoting my own Metro piece. I reimagined the caponier tunnel of the fort, buried deep in the Sussex cliffside, as a busy subway passage. The rustling and shuffling of commuters reading their free newspapers are setting the tempo for an ensemble of perambulating musicians playing from the panoramic score on the walls, as they wind their way through the tunnel.

Many thanks to the Lost Property team, with special thanks to Graham Nowbray and Alistair Strachan. Many thanks to the performers Alistair Strachan on cornet, Kev Nickells and Carrie Topley on violin; Lisa Guile on sax;  Rebecca Askew and George Patterson, voice. Many thanks to the Lost Property assistants for setting up so patiently.

FORT PROCESS – PANORAMIC SCORES CONCERT

Central / Caponier

are the titles of the two on-location panoramic scores I created for the Fort Process Festival, named after the locations they are situated in – the Central Gun Placement and the Caponier Tunnel of Fort Newhaven, East-Sussex, UK. Last Saturday, Sept 22, these pieces premiered.

I’ve been very much looking forward to starting working on it – it’s going to be much longer than last year’s IMAGIRO Landmannalaugar and wrapping through buildings of Fort Newhaven, starting today!

I’ve got the 40 metres of fabric! Plucked them out of the sky. #40metres#panoramicscore #graphicscore #workinprogress #inkandbrush #fortprocess#composer #premiere #Sept22

I’m extremely thrilled to introduce to you my next gigantic Panoramic Score production. This time situated on an incredible on-location setting at the Fort Process Festival in Newhaven, UK. Photos below show the buildings and structures where I’m going to compose the panoramic scores for. The sheet music will wrap itself through the spaces. The echoing sound qualities of the tunnel are mind blowing beautiful.

More updates in next newsletter, but this festival has very limited tickets, so book now to avoid disappointment. Check out the rest of the programme! It’s an experimental sound and art festival not to be missed.

Lost Property presents Fort Process – a one day sound art and music event that utilises the extraordinary resonant spaces of Newhaven Fort. This third edition of the festival will feature performances, installations, talks, workshops and live art, and is part of an extended season that runs from July to October with events at De La Warr Pavilion, Cafe Oto and ACCA.
