. Rugged wild landscapes with their hills and mountains read like music to me. The Icelandic use the work ‘fjallasyn’ to describe a distant view, especially in clear weather and from a point where you can see a big part of a highland area – a panorama with many peaks. There are two IMAGIRO worksContinue reading “Listen to Imagiro Largo music here”
I’m extremely proud to present this video to you – thank you Ensemble Synaesthesis for the spellbinding performance! Rugged wild landscapes with their hills and mountains read like music to me. . Happy about how #IMAGIRO ‘Largo’ and ‘Landmannalaugar’ worked out. If I get the chance will be writing more in this line. It has been such a physical, intuitive and ungiving mathematical process, a very interesting challenge to match these contrasting qualities. Thank you so much for commissioning Egidija Medeksaite, the Lithuanian Composers Union and Sound and Music and Contemporary Music EnsembleContinue reading “IMAGIRO premieres were sensational!”
Hear hear! 7pm August 14 in the Black Hall of the Printing House in Vilnius. . Trying out the panoramic score in Vilnius Library during rehearsal. #IMAGIRO .
The next stage…. First test of #panoramicscore #graphicscore. I need a bigger brush. Another few metres to go #IMAGIRO @soundandmusic #DARresidency #newmusic pic.twitter.com/ekRqSfrcgD — jobinatinnemans (@jobinatinnemans) August 6, 2017 ..
‘IMAGIRO’ is a composition for ensemble and panoramic score, unfolding its music from a single landscape size movement into a sound sculpture like origami, whilst pacing the musicians through the concert space in a slow-motion ceremonial choreography of imaginary Olympian sprinters. For those interested, let me talk you through the many various stages of creating this work. I guessContinue reading “IMAGIRO #3 stages of development”
I have been looking forward to painting my graphic landscape #panoramicscore for months! This is the first sketch, still a bit blocky. #IMAGIRO will be premiered by Ensemble Synaesthesis in Vilnius, Lithuania, on August 14. Commissioned for the DAR Residency, in collaboration with AiR Krems and Sound And Music. . .
Full of beans finishing my new piece #IMAGIRO. A #panoramicscore! So excited and full of wonder how this is going work visually. Unfolding music and players through the concert space in a time-lapse rally. In theory it works really simple… #brainworkout #Vilnius #premiere14aug #ensembleSynaesthesis . .

The Apartment House ensemble, directed by Anton Lukoszevieze, premiered three new works of mine – Turner Piece, Apartment House (Building Stories) and Metro – in Cafe OTO London in October. For these works I divided the string sextet into a Left and Right, stereo, sub-ensemble. ‘Turner Piece’ is about vast natural landscapes and their micro textures. ImpressionisticContinue reading “Apartment House playing Turner Piece, Apartment House and Metro @ OTO”
Recorded from a live performance in Theatre Lalek at the ISCM (International Society for Contemporary Music) World Music Days ’14 held in Wroclaw, Poland. ‘Shakespeare And Hedgeshear’ is for two table tennis teams, three performers clipping hedges, sound processing and five manipulated Shakespeare acts. …and slighty SciFi of course. With thanks to the WMD PolandContinue reading “World Music Days concert at your *listening* service here”

Oh glory! Ha! I was wondering how to print a score on delicate tissue paper, as relatively thin newspaper paper still seems to be a bit too heavy for the sound that I’m after…. the answer came through the letterbox in the shape of a (new) phonebook, today. Put straight into good use. It sounds particularly nice pre-crinkled.Continue reading “Find it in the phonebook”
I’m scoring out the page turns for my new work which features the sound of various qualities of paper page turning. It’s not only about its timing and paper type, but I’m also scoring the stereo panning. So very much can’t wait to see this happening.
I’m working on a Sound And Music ‘Embedded’ commission for the experimental Apartment House ensemble. The page turning sound of the player’s paper score makes part of piece. I have been trying out whether or not to use sound processing on the paper sounds, resulting in a few hours worth of Paper FX recordings, very soundscape-like – stormy, watery, leafy all the wayContinue reading “Processed Paper – Weekly Sonic Sketchbook #2”
Currently I’m working on a composition for the exquisite Apartment House ensemble. Turning the pages of it’s paper score is part of the ensemble as an instrument. I’ve been recording several paper qualities the score might be printed on – so far rice paper is my favourite. This week I picked two studies, one sketch where you can hearContinue reading “Page Turner – Weekly Sonic Sketchbook #1”
Some marvellous news about getting new music out there! * Vogue Knitting Live NYC ’16 Gala Diner concert and Fashion Show music * My MATA commission ‘Killing Time’ uses prepared knitting needles to trigger software sound samples in an organic way to reproduce Nature sounds. “Shakespeare And Hedgeshear” my piece for two table tennis matches, three untrimmed hedges and excerpts from Shakespeare, will be performed in this beautiful venue Teatre Lalek during the ISCM World Music Days Wroclaw this October.
